ASUS launches GTX 980 20th Anniversary Gold Edition

Fastest GTX 980 graphics card around

ASUS has now officially launched its newest Geforce GTX 980 20th Anniversary Gold Edition graphics card, a special edition made to mark the 20th year of ASUS on the graphics card market.

As teased earlier this week, the new ASUS Geforce GTX 980 20th Anniversary Gold Edition graphics card will feature a hefty factory-overclock, custom PCB as well as a new DirectCU II Platinum cooler.

Based on the same well known Nvidia 28nm GM204 GPU with 2048 CUDA cores, 128 TMUs, 64 ROPs as well as 4GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 256-bit memory interface, the new ASUS Geforce GTX 980 20th Anniversary Gold Edition graphics card features a completely custom PCB with 12+2-phase DIGI+ II VRM and ASUS' Super Alloy Power design. Powered by two 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors, it means that the new ASUS GTX 980 20th Anniversary Gold Edition has a maximum TDP of around 300W, leaving much room for overclocking.

Specification wise, ASUS has decided to include a highest GTX 980 factory-overclock so far. With ASUS GTX 980 Matrix Platinum OC set at quite high 1342MHz, it was obvious that ASUS needs an impressive custom design in order to reach even higher factory-overclock. The base GPU clock on the GTX 980 20th Anniversary Gold Edition graphics card is set at 1317MHz while the GPU Boost clock goes as high as 1431MHz. The 4GB of GDDR5 memory remained at reference 7008MHz but it should easily reach 8000MHz.

ASUS decided to use the new DirectCU II Platinum cooler for this graphics card and while it does not come with a CoolTech fan design, it still has a hefty aluminum heatsink cooled by two 92mm fans, which also feature 0dB technology that does not spin them up before GPU reaches certain temperature.

Following the gold/black color scheme, the new ASUS GTX 980 20th Anniversary Gold Edition will go well with recently released ASUS Intel 9 series motherboards with similar color scheme.

Unfortunately, ASUS did not reveal any details regarding the price or the availability date of the new ASUS GTX 980 20th Anniversary Gold Edition or if it will be a limited edition or widely available.
