i7-6700K vs i7-4790K in Games & great Temperatures

Another day shortly before launch, another leak ... Another Chinese source has leaked set of benchmark results, where the Core i7-6700K has been compared to the i7-4790K. As you will see in the results below the 6th generation of Intel Core processors is to be faster in all benchmarks.

Intel is set to launch their new Skylake processors on 5th of August at Gamescom. By then the Core i7-6700K as well as the Core i5-6600K should become available. These will be the flagship models using Intels 14nm process technology. Alongside these new processors Intel is also going to introduce the Z170 chipset, which means motherboard vendors will come up with an armada of motherboards.

In the meantime another set of benchmarks has been leaked by Chinese sources. This time the upcoming Core i7-6700K has been compared to the Core i7-4790K and the CPU has been used on a MSI Z170 Gaming Pro motherboard. It looks like the Core i7-6700K is quite a bit quicker in gaming benchmarks than the Core i7-4790K. On average the gap between the two processors is 10 to 15 percent. If only the integrated GPUs are compared the difference can even up to 30 percent. What's also interesting to see is that overall power consumption is down from 475 watts with the Core i7-4790K to 425W using the Core i7-6700K. This would mean that either the entire platform would have become more energy efficient.

On another note it's interesting to see that the new Core i7-6700K runs at 55 to 65°C. Most of you might remember that Intel used a low quality thermal interface material (TIM) for their Haswell processors. The TIM is the compound, which is inbetween the heatspreader and actual DIE. This led to the circumstance that for exmaple the Core i7-4790K can easily hit temperatures in region of 80°C+. Since the Core i7-6700K runs much cooler we guess that Intel has changed the TIM again to a higher quality compound.

Just yesterday we reported that the guys from HKEPC were able to overclock an i7-6700K to 5.2 GHz on air. We would be rather curious to find out more about the temperatures. If we were to guess we would say, there weren't higher than 70°C thanks to better TIM used.
