Samsung did not infringe on Nvidia patents

Not looking good for Nvidia

Just over a year ago we heard a surprising news that Nvidia is suing both Samsung and Qualcomm for its graphics patents but it appears that Samsung might be in the clear.

The lawsuit demanded damages and blocking of sales on at least twelve Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S5, Note 4 and Note Edge, all based on Adreno, Mali or PowerVG GPUs.

According to a report at CNET.com, citing the administrative judge at the US International Trade Commision, Thomas B. Pender, Samsung did not infringe on any of Nvidia patents and one of the patents has been declared invalid.

While we are still waiting for a formal decision, it appears that Nvidia failed to become a patent troll and hopefully we won't see any more of these lawsuits in the future. According to the report, Nvidia spokeperson stated that they are still confident in their case.

In a swift response, Samsung also started a patent law suit last year stating that Nvidia and some of its partners infringed up to eight Samsung patents with its Nvidia Shield products.
