Toshiba unveils OCZ RD400 NVMe SSD series

The NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD with up to 2,600MB/s

Toshiba has unveiled its new OCZ RD400 SSD series which will not only be the first SSD launched under the new Toshiba - OCZ brand, but also the first Toshiba NVMe/M.2 SSD for the consumer market and the first consumer NVMe SSD to ship in capacities of up to 1024GB.

The new Toshiba OCZ RD400 NVMe SSD marks the milestone in the acquisition of the OCZ by Toshiba as this will be the first product to carry the Toshiba - OCZ brand. The new OCZ RD400 SSD series will be positioned as the new high-end product in the Toshiba OCZ product lineup, offering significantly higher performance compared to the SATA-based OCZ VT180 and OCZ TR150 SSD series.

Based on Toshiba's 15nm MLC NAND, the OCZ RD400 NVMe SSD will use NVMe protocol and PCIe Gen3 x4 interface, offering sequential performance of up to 2,600MB/s for read and up to 1,600MB/s for write. Random 4K read and write performance reaches up to 210,000 and 140,000 IOPS.

The Toshiba OCZ RD400 will be available in two options, as an M.2 module or with a PCIe adapter card. The Tohsiba OCZ RD400 will be available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1024GB (1TB) capacities, and, according to Toshiba, this is the first NVMe consumer SSD reaching capacity of 1TB.

Although the brand has been changed, the new OCZ RD400 will still be supported with OCZ's SSD Utility Software and be a part of OCZ's Advanced Warranty. The Toshiba OCZ RD400 has an endurance rating of up to 592 TBW and is backed by a 5-year warranty.

According to our sources, the Toshiba OCZ RD400 SSD should be available soon with a MSRP set at US $109.99 for the 128GB, US $169.99 for the 256GB, US $309.99 for the 512GB and US $739.99 for the 1024GB model, while the version with AIC adapter should add US $20 to the price.
