ASUS unveils ROG Project Avalon modular PC

At the Join The Republic press event

At its Join The Republic press event held at Computex 2016 show in Taiwan, ASUS also unveiled an interesting new concept called the Project Avalon. Part of the Republic of Gamers lineup, the Project Avalon is a modular PC, which will allow users to simply upgrade it or change components.

According to ASUS and what could be seen during the even, the Project Avalon will use blocks in order to simplify the process of upgrading or simply changing components of the PC, making it "easier to assemble and less expensive to build".

ASUS already showed a couple of different modules, or precisely, motherboard back panels, aimed at either virtual reality, home theater or workstation systems. Currently, there are a couple of "problems" with the modular concept on the Project Avalon, including the fact that you have to still bring power to certain components, most specifically graphics card, but ASUS is working on a new connector which should make it all plug-and-play.

ASUS has actually teamed up with In Win, a quite respectable chassis maker, that will build a few PC case options for the Project Avalon and has called other industry partners to join and contribute.

Hopefully we will see and hear more about ASUS' ROG Project Avalon and it won't become vaporware.
