AMD socket AM4 X370 chipset further detailed

Designed for Summit Ridge with overclocking support

While we already knew that AMD will have a new high-end/enthusiast chipset socket AM4 chipset, most earlier details were focused on mainstream and entry-level chipsets but now we have a bit more details regarding the high-end X370 chipset.

According to a slide leaked at Planet3dnow site, the AMD X370 will indeed be an enthusiast socket AM4 chipset which will be aimed at the upcoming Summit Ridge CPUs based on Zen CPU architecture.

The AMD X370 chipset will offer two full PCI-Express 3.0 x16 lanes, as well as further overclocking support, something that will be quite important to enthusiasts, due to the fact that AMD will have an unlocked multiplier on most, if not all, Summit Ridge FX-series CPUs.

The rest of the connections should be similar to the mainstream B350 chipset, including USB 3.1 Gen2 ports, SATA, PCIe NVMe and SATA Express ports and support for dual-channel DDR4 memory.

As detailed earlier, plenty of these high-end AM4 motherboards should show up at CES 2017 show in January, followed by the launch of Zen-based Summit Ridge CPUs, while some entry-level AM4 socket motherboards, probably based on A320 and B350 chipsets could come in October, alongside Excavator-based Bristol Ridge APUs.
