EK Water Blocks have announced that its, already available, EK-FC R9-290X series water blocks are also compatible with reference design AMD Radeon R9 290 graphics cards launched today.

As both of the graphics cards are pretty much the same, except from the obvious difference in the GPU stream processor count and lower clocks, and even have the same reference cooler, it does not come as a surprise that the EK-FC R9-290X series full-cover water blocks are compatible with the new R9 290.

EKWB also added more than eight different Radeon R9 290 graphics cards from various manufacturers to EK Cooling Configurator database and compatible graphics cards are being added on a daily basis.

In case you missed it back when it was announced for the Radeon R9 290X, the EK-FC R9-290X is a full-cover water block that directly cools the GPU, RAM as well as VRM (voltage regulation module) as water flows directly over these critical areas thus allowing the graphics card and it's VRM to remain stable under high overclocks. It also features a very high flow design and can be used with weaker water pumps and features 0.6mm wide microchannel structure that should further improve the heat transfer while not sacrificing the famous low hydraulic restriction design.

Judging from the early reviews of the AMD Radeon R9 290, there is definitely a lot room for improvement on the cooling side and the R9 290 would certainly work much better when paired up with EKWB's full-cover EK-FC R9-290X.
