Curtain closes on Pear OS

Services closing on January 31

Pear OS Linux distribution which aimed to bring Apple-like design to Linux, will be ending its life on January 31st. After the release of version 8, the OS has been bought by a company which wants to remain anonymous.

In case you never heard of the Pear OS Linux distribution, it was practically a mix between OS X and iOS icons with intuitive interface. The version 8 of the Pear OS have been launched late last year and was very well received. On January 22nd, Pear OS ISO download was pulled down following the acquisition by a company which wants to remain anonymous for now.

The developer and creator, David Tavares, said on its Google+ page:

"Pear OS and Pear Cloud are no longer available for download. Its future is now in hands of a company who wants to remain anonymous for the moment. The concept has pleased them it and now wants to continue and improve the system for their own products. I can not give a name but it is a very large company well known ..."

It is definitely a big question which company can actually afford it? The announcement on the official site states that all services will be completely closed and users have until January 31st to collect their data from the Pear Cloud before they are deleted. The move is definitely far from the usual policy of Linux distribution but since Android came along, the open source world has definitely changed.
