ASUS Chromebox with Core i3 Haswell CPU now available

For US $399

While ASUS has started selling its Chrome OS based desktop computers back in March with the US $179 priced ASUS Chromebox M005U, based on Celeron 2955U Haswell CPU, the same system has now been refreshed with a new and more powerful Intel Haswell Core i3-4010U CPU in the ASUS Chromebox M075U model.

While the rest of the specs should be pretty much the same, including 4GB of memory (with support for up to 16GB), 16GB of SSD storage, Intel HD 4400 graphics, 802.11bgn WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, four USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs and SD card reader, the new ASUS Chromebox M075U model packs much more performance with a Core i3-4010U CPU.

While both CPUs are based on Haswell architecture, the Core i3-4010U CPU is clocked higher at 1.7GHz, compared to 1.4GHz on the Celeron 2955U, but also packs a bit more L2 cache, 3MB compared to 2MB on the Celeron. The Core i3-4010U also supports Hyper-threading while the Celeron 2955U does not.

Of course, with the new Core i3-4010U, the price of the ASUS Chromebox also got up from the original US $179 for the Celeron equipped on to US $399 for the ASUS Chromebox M075U which is now listed at Amazon, ExcaliberPC and Provantage.
