AMD working on 28nm Tonga GPU

Competition for the Nvidia GM107

According to a report from Videocardz.com, AMD is apparently working on a new 28nm mid-range GPU, codename Tonga. The new GPU should take on Nvidia's GM107 which has been known for impressive power efficiency.

The new 28nm based Tonga GPU could power up mid-range graphics cards in order to compete with the Nvidia Geforce GTX 750 Ti and the GTX 750 and will be based on Graphcis CoreNext 2.0 architecture, same as R9 290 Hawaii GPU based graphics cards. The new GPU could feature a new PowerTune as well as Mantle, TrueAudio and the new XDMA Crossfire.

According to first details, graphics card based on the Tonga GPU could pack up to 2GB of memory and pretty much replace the Tahiti Pro based graphics cards. It could also feature similar specifications as the Tahiti GPU, with a 256-bit memory interface, but also feature a quite higher clocks.

More information regarding the new GPU is expected at Computex 2014.
