Conclusion

Since quite a long time Samsung has been producing SSD for now. Like for example Intel, Samsung is one of the few manufacturers which develops their own controllers. That's also a reason why Samsung SSD are being relabled by other well-known manufacturer such as Kingston and Corsair. The 64 GByte version with the exact product code MMCRE64G5MXP-0VB00 comes with quite an appealing performance. Unfortunately the Samsung drive isn't able to keep up with other manufacturers recently released solid state drives. The Samsung controller delivers consistent performance without stuttering but it isn't able to compete with the best drives in our test parcours.

With about 150 MByte/s sequential write performance the Samsung SSD ranges in about the center span of our testfield. Looking at the sequential write processes we see that with 190 MByte/s the Samsung derivate with 64 GByte is falling back some places but these figures still mean a remarkably big difference compared to a standard hard drive. Writing small blocks which is the most relevant test for every day use the Samsung drive unfortunately can be found a the bottom of our test tables.

With the 64 GByte version Samsung shows an SSDs which awaits you with consistent performance. It is also very well possible to use this drive every day because it shows no stuttering or anything like this. Unfortunately there are meanwhile many other drives available on the market that perform way better and therefore the last hope for the Samsung drive is its pricing. And we have to say that CHF 3.4 (est. EUR 2.3) is quite good we can therefore recommend the Samsung 64 GByte drive as a solid performing entry level solid state drive.

The Samsung 64 GByte SSD can be bought at Brack Electronics to a price of CHF 219.- (est. EUR 146.-).
