Announcement: Despite the circumstance that the rating of a product is based on as many objective facts as possible there are factors which can have an influence on a rating after publication. Every autor may perceive data differently over time whereas one possible reason for example is a deeper background knowledge or understanding of certain processes. Certain unforseen market conditions as well as changes have the potential to render a descision made at a certain point in time obsolete.

Checking the the performance numbers we measured up to 530 Megabyte per second for sequential reads and 444 Megabyte per second for sequential writes. Regarding random throughput the M5Pro from Plextor has been able to achieve 63'600 IOPS while performing random write operations and 98'600 IOPS performing random reads. Overall the M5Pro is a quick drive. Nevertheless would would have liked to see higher random write as well as sequential write performance. We're hoping Plextor is going to further optmize the firmware of this drive so it will eventually hit 500 Megabyte per second sequential write. On the other hand random reads are excellent. The M5Pro is capable of delivering almost 100'000 IOPS, which makes it one of the fastest drives for random reads.

Now it's time to head to Geizhals.at to check the price of this drive. It turns out prices for the M5Pro from Plextor start at 181 Euro, which makes is one of the most expensive 256 Gigabyte drives you can acutally buy. Should you be looking for an SSD that features high random read performance that comes from a manufacturer which is known for reliable SSDs, you can consider this offer.
