Toshiba promises 128TB SSDs in 2018

With QLC and BiCS 3D NAND flash

While we already have 4TB SSDs with PCIe interface and over 3TB with standard SATA interface, it appears that we might see 128TB SSDs in just three years from now, according to Toshiba.

Toshiba plans to start the production of quad-level cell (QLC) and BiCS (bit cost scalable) 3D NAND flash which will bot reduce cost as well as increase capacities of NAND flash memory, thus bringing 128TB SSDs in 2018.

According to Nordic Hardware, Toshiba will also develop new controllers for such SSDs and with Samsung pushing hard for 16TB SSDs by the end of next year, it appears that SSDs have a bright future especially considering the performance gain compared to the traditional HDDs.
