Toshiba unveils HK4 series enterprise SSDs

With 15nm MLC NAND flash

Toshiba has announced the availability of its new high capacity enterprise and data center SSD series, the Toshiba HK4 SSD series, which will be the first Toshiba enterprise SSD series based on 15nm MLC NAND.

The Toshiba HK4 series is actually the first enterprise SSD series to use 15nm MLC NAND flash paired up with Toshiba's own controller and is the first Toshiba SATA SDD with optional Trusted Computing Group (TCG) enterprise encryption support.

Based on a standard 2.5-inch form-factor with SATA 6Gbps interface, the new Toshiba HK4 SSD series will be available in capacities of up to 1.92TB for the read-intensive HK4R family, aimed to be used with web servers, files servers, media streaming, video-on-demand, search engines and warm data storage due to its low operating power as well as in capacities of up to 1.6TB for the HK4E family of value-endurance version aimed at data centers and mixed workload applications.

In addition to the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) enterprise encryption support, the new Toshiba HK4 series will also use Toshiba’s QSBC (Quadruple Swing-By Code) error technology, a proprietary error-correction technology.

The new Toshiba HK4 SSD series is backed by a five-year warranty and should be available now while the self-encrypting version will be available in April.
