Gigabyte updates BRIX mini-PCs with Kaby Lake CPUs

Three Kaby Lake CPUs to choose from

Gigabyte has announced that it has updated its BRIX range of mini-PC barebone systems with latest Intel 7th generation Core Kaby Lake CPUs.

In case you missed it, the Gigabyte BRIX is a small mini-PC that is available in 0.46L (34.4 x 112.6 x 119.4mm) and a taller 0.6L (46.8 x 112.6 x 119.4mm) versions, where the taller one allows users to fit an additional 2.5-inch drive.

Gigabyte's BRIX lineup will be coming with three different Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake CPUs, including the Intel Core i3-7100U, Core i5-7200U, or Core i7-7500U. All three CPUs are dual-core SKUs with support for Intel Hyper-Threading and packs 3MB cache (4MB on the Core i7-7500U) and have the same 15W TDP.

The Core i3-7100U works at 2.4GHz base clock but does not support Turbo, while the Core i5-7200U and Core i7-7500U work at 2.5GHz and 2.7GHz base CPU clocks with max Turbo of 3.1GHz and 3.5GHz, respectively.

All three CPUs also feature Intel HD Graphics 620 IGP with 300MHz base and 1.0GHz Boost GPU clock and also come with support for 32GB of DDR4-2133MHz memory in two SO-DIMM slots.

The Gigabyte BRIX is a neat little system which packs some rather impressive features like plenty of connectivity ports, including USB 3.1 Type-C and Type-A ports, USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, Gigabit Ethernet, dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2.

With the Intel's 7th generation Kaby Lake CPUs, Gigabyte's BRIX mini-PCs will be getting a 10 percent boost in performance but also bring a much better video engine that significantly improves power efficiency in those tasks but also bring HEVC 10-bit hardware acceleration and better 4K playback.

The new Gigabyte BRIX mini-PCs with Kaby Lake CPUs should start to appear in retail/e-tail in the next few months. Unfortunately, Gigabyte did not reveal any details regarding the price.
