Samsung 960 EVO M.2 shows up for pre-order

Starting at US $129.99

Samsung has unveiled its 960 EVO M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD series back in September and now these drives are actually available for pre-order in the US, giving us a clear idea about the price.

In case you missed the Samsung 960 EVO SSD lineup back when it was announced in Septmeber, next to the Samsung 960 Pro SSD lineup, it will be available in 250GB, 500GB and 1TB capacities and in M.2 2280 form-factor with PCIe 3.0 x4 interface and NVMe protocol.

It is based on Samsung's new Polaris SSD controller and based on Samsung's own 48-layer TLC V-NAND, offering sequential read and write performance of up to 3200MB/s and 1900MB/s with 4K random read and write performance of up to 380k IOPS and 360k IOPS.

Since it is based on TLC NAND memory, the Samsung 960 EVO also comes with "Intelligent TurboWrite" SLC caching technology and come with a SLC cache of 13GB, 22GB and 42GB, which should deal with the drawbacks of the TLC NAND.

The biggest surprise regarding the pre-order is that it actually follows the Samsung MSRP, with pricing set at US $129.99 for the 250GB, US $249.99 for the 500GB and US $479.99 for the 1TB version. This puts them at around US $0.50/GB price, which makes them a decent deal if you have a free M.2 PCIe slot. You can check out all three listings directly at Samsung.com.

All three Samsung 960 EVO capacities are also listed in Europe and are priced at €119.15 for the 250GB, €237 for the 500GB and €432.99 for the 1TB version. Unfortunately, the Samsung 960 EVO SSD lineup is still not available and most retailers/e-tailers in Europe expect it in stock in about three weeks.
