Der8auer creates the Skylake-X Direct Die Frame

A new tool for Intel X299

The well-known overclocker der8auer has announced another useful tool compatible with Intel X299 processors. With Skylake-X Direct Die Frame (or SK-X DDF for short), Der8auer replaces the Intel's ILM (Integrated Loading Mechanism) as well as the mounting holes for the CPU cooler.

Skylake-X Direct Die Frame is a tool that improve the die cooling on the Intel Skylake-X processors. With this tool you can place the air or liquid cooler directly on the processors. In order to install the SK-X DDF you have to delid your expensive Intel X299 processor and remove the standard Intel ILM. If you have to delid the CPU, the Delid-Die-Mate X is the tool required.

The Delid-Die-Mate X is simple allowing you to secure a CPU and then move the heat spreader away from the PCB by force. Basically you just have to place the CPU into to correct mold to then force the heat spreader off by tightening a large screw that is moving a bar forward. Once the CPU is delidded and clean, you are ready to install it on your motherboard. According to Der8auer, with the SK-X DDF you can improve the temperature up to 25-30°C less, providing room for a significant OC performance improvement.

Der8auer's Skylake-X Direct Die Frame isn't compatible with every cooler out there. Those that have fixed mounting heights aren't compatible. However, water coolers from EKWB, Aquacomputer and AIO water coolers are guaranteed to fit. Nevertheless it needs to be mentioned that delidding a CPU is always a risky task and you it is not covered by the warranty plan when you buy any Intel CPU. If you're willing to take the risk the SK-X DDF is available now on Caseking for 69.90 Euro.
