AMD Ryzen 5 2400G gets delidded

Just a few days after the launch

A while ago well-known overclocker Der8auer created a tool to delid Coffee Lake (and other) processors. Now, with the new AMD Raven Ridge chips, he managed to delid also this new processor with his specific tools. Meanwhile he posted a video on Youtube where shows the temperature improvement.

In the video, Der8auer explains how is hard to predict whether AMD will use TIM or solder on its CPUs. For example the current Ryzen series comes with soldered IHS like previous APUs processors. With the Raven Ridge series of CPU, AMD is using a thermal interface solution. In order to delid the newest AMD APUs, you need the existing Delid Die Mate 2 with an additional acrylic shim which can be made with a couple of euro.

Der8auer didn't use the AMD Ryzen 5 2400G with direct die cooling but he applied the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut with Conductonaut compounds. As you can see from the two charts, there is a good temperature difference however the overclocking room is more or less the same. According to Der8auer, if you are using your Raven Ridge APUs inside a small case or HTPC solution then the delid might be worthy otherwise you will not see any benefits.
